TrustMe Announces Support for OAuth Open Protocol

TrustMe Security, a provider of development platforms for secure online communication applications, today announced that it is adding support for OAuth to the TrustMe Security API.

OAuth is an open protocol that enables secure API authentication for web, mobile and desktop applications using a standard method. The protocol gives service provider developers access to their data on OAuth compatible services while protecting their account credentials. Supporting OAuth is ensuring that TrustMe is working with developers to easily work with the best available open protocols and standards.

“With only about six per cent of all Facebook applications averaging at least 500 active users per day TrustMe wants to ensure that developers have access to the tools they need to easily and efficiently develop applications for all online communication platforms,” said Mike Mullen, CTO of TrustMe Security. “Consumers need to feel confident that the applications they are using are safe and secure. Supporting open protocols like OAuth will help developers feel confident in the security they are offering with TrustMe’s API.”

TrustMe empowers developers to add security and privacy to online communication platforms such as email, social networks (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, etc.), instant messaging and VoIP. Developers may access TrustMe’s Public Key Name Service (PKNS) using a REST-based API. The PKNS allows applications and web sites to encrypt communications and limit the disclosure of a person’s personal information to only that person’s trusted contacts.

“OAuth is an emerging, community-driven open protocol that is essential to lowering the cost of doing the right thing when it comes to helping people share their information between web services in a safe and easy way,” said Chris Messina, Open Source Advocate-at-Large. “That TrustMe should adopt this protocol speaks to their foresight and good intentions when it comes to securely delivering people’s private and personal information wherever it needs to go.”

While attending the F8 Conference this week in San Francisco, the TrustMe team will be meeting with Facebook developers to gain insight and feedback on additional open protocols and standards developers are relying on as well as the TrustMe API. TrustMe is dedicated to providing the developer community with the most complete and easy-to-use development tools to secure online communication applications. The TrustMe API is available for free at www.trustmesecurity.com.

TrustMe and Trimedia Atlantic to Add Data Security to Orbit CMS Software

Partnership to Protect Personal and Financial Information

TrustMe Security, a provider of development platforms for secure online communication applications, and Trimedia Atlantic, a full service multimedia production facility and web development firm, announced today a partnership to develop secure communication applications.

Trimedia Atlantic specializes in the development of innovative, media rich content management technologies. It will use TrustMe Security’s API-accessible development platform to encrypt and decrypt data transferred between credit monitoring bureaus and financial institutions, and present it in an easy to process format that protects the privacy of applicants. The applications will be one of the modules Trimedia offers as part of its international award winning Orbit CMS software.

“Our product is called Orbit because it’s out of this world but our commitment to data security is quite grounded,” said Adam Greene, Trimedia’s Advanced Web System Specialist. “Our new relationship with TrustMe will enable us to provide improved security services to our clients and demonstrate our ongoing promise to listen to our clients and offer them the best and latest technologies.”

The TrustMe API enables developers to incorporate trust linkages into their applications to ensure that users of the software or web sites may communicate securely with those people they designate as trusted contacts. Non-trusted individuals who intercept a message encrypted by TrustMe will find it unreadable. Trimedia will offer the module as a subscription service with its Orbit CMS software.

“TrustMe is providing a unique platform to allow developers to easily integrate security features into their existing applications,” said Dean Hennessay, TrustMe Security’s Development Lead. “Trimedia Atlantic is an excellent example of innovative people doing amazing things with our technology.”

TrustMe Secures Online Communication Applications with New API

Development platform to protect Trust Linkages

TrustMe Security, a provider of development platforms for secure online communication applications, today announced the availability of an application programming interface (API) developer kit to empower developers to add security and privacy to online communication platforms such as email, social networks (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, etc.), instant messaging and VoIP. Using TrustMe’s API, developers can secure any online communication application or feature that is important to consumers and businesses.

When communicating online people create Trust Linkages with the people they choose to share their personal information with through email, Facebook or Twitter. Securing these trusted connections is the foundation to building a safe Internet. With TrustMe’s technology, users create online circles of trust and can customize how much, or how little, access individuals have to their online profiles.

“Anyone can download software that will enable them to intercept messages as they travel across the Internet from applications including email, VoIP, IM, etc.,” said Mike Mullen, CTO of TrustMe Security. “TrustMe is supporting the next phase of online communications and social networks by providing developers with the tools they need to easily incorporate security and privacy into today and tomorrow’s most popular online applications.”

With the TrustMe API developers can incorporate Trust technology into existing software and web sites or develop new applications to help consumers and businesses feel safe about the way they communicate online. The API will allow developers to create applications that will enable users to:

  • Authenticate and secure email correspondence to ensure it is going to and being received by a legitimate, trusted source
  • Develop a universal address book that can be secure across any social network or online application
  • Confirm Trust Linkages are not broken when emails are forwarded to a third party

The API allows any feature or application to remain connected to the TrustMe Public Key Name Service (PKNS) which stores and authenticates the established Trust Linkages. Unlike most commercial security applications, TrustMe secures communications by authenticating Trust Linkages and never stores or handles the messages.

The API is available for free to all developers here.
